Validation

Testing and validation is a key part of our Full Service Supply capability. Our comprehensive in-house facilities allow us to test full vehicle EDS systems and all associated components including high voltage products. This involves performing multiple electrical and mechanical tests, including vibration measurements, as well as in driving mode on the test track. We work to customer specifications, national and international standards, as well as to our internal test procedures.

Testing techniques include fully automated lifetime testing of electro-mechanical components like fuse and relay boxes, as well as non-destructive test processes for analysis of harnesses and components. Another aspect is advanced harness testing within the vehicle – performed in our fully equipped vehicle workshops.

Typical full vehicle EDS system testing might include:

  • Grounding analysis
  • AC/DC ground offset
  • Dry short-circuit test
  • Harness voltage drop
  • Power cable voltage drop

Laboratory network

The Wiring Systems Division has a global network of laboratories managed from a central facility in Germany.

Most are co-located with our R&D / Customer Service Centres – providing local facilities, technical expertise and customer support.

Typically, our laboratories focus of the following key areas of activity:

  • Electrical testing
e.g. crimp resistance / HEV tests / fuse and relay tests
  • Mechanical testing
    e.g. stress & strain / elongation / vibration / abrasion
  • Environmental simulation
    e.g. climatic ageing / water & salt spray / thermo-shock
  • Analytics
    e.g. infra-red spectroscopy / materials analysis / moisture
